Remote Education

At New Siblands School, we believe that school attendance is essential to development and in preparing pupils for future education and life beyond education.

In specific circumstances the school may be required to offer remote education to ensure that pupils continue to receive a high-quality education offer.

The DFE guidance is clear that remote education should not be viewed as an equal alternative to attendance in schools.

Remote Education will be offered in line with the good practice outlined in the DFE guidance that can be found at:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/providing-remote-education-guidance-for-schools/providing-remote-education-guidance-for-schools

This will only ever be a last resort where a decision has already been made that attendance at school is not possible, but pupils are able to continue learning.   These occasions will be rare, falling into two broad categories:

- School closures or restrictions on attendance, where school access for pupils is restricted

- Individual cases where a pupil is unable to attend school but can learn

Any remote learning put in place will be done so with the agreement of parents and advice from any other relevant  professionals who are supporting that child.  For example, remote learning will not necessarily be expected if a child is clearly too unwell and receiving ongoing medical support.

Any offer provided could include, but not be limited to:

- Equivalent to core teaching time
- Tailored to age and developmental stage
- Take account of any additional needs or SEND
- Consider access to digital devices and resources if appropriate
- Some kind of remote access in real time, depending on the needs of the pupil

Where the school offers remote education there will be consideration to any safeguarding risks to the child and their mitigations.

If a pupil's wellbeing were to be negatively impacted by remote learning due to their special educational needs, then this will be mitigated and the school will not impose remote learning unless it is accessible in a way which pupil's find engaging and stress-free.

The school will also ensure that any pupil entitled to a free school meal is provided with a good quality lunch or issue (where available) a food voucher.

Any queries about Remote Education should be directed to the Head Teacher,  via the school office on enquiries@newsiblands.org.uk
