Welcome to Post 16
Welcome to Post 16
We are a group of 16 - 19 year old students who are following the Preparation for Adulthood Curriculum.
We are learning to be more independent and finding out about what we like in order to prepare ourselves for what comes after our New Siblands journey ends. We know from our previous students that we go onto bigger and better things.
As part of widening our experience of the world, we partake in work experience (on site and in the community), earn money towards our yearly prom via a local paper round and also volunteer with the local 'Thornbury Litter Busters'.
We also enjoy the extra responsibility and enjoyment that comes with being the oldest in the school.

Our Learning
Our Learning
Your student will be on one of three pathways depending on how they learn and where their next destination will be when they leave us.
Towards Community Participation Pathway
This is a pathway for our sensory learners who like to learn through music and their senses.
Timetable for Towards Community Participation
Towards Independence Pathway
This pathway is for our learners who are learning to be more independent and are starting to do more subject specific learning. They often sit in small groups and work for longer periods of time often using practical resources & recording in a range of ways.
Timetable for Towards Independence
Towards Employment Pathway
This pathway is for our learners who thrive on subject specific learning and will be prepared for going into a job when they are older. They are starting to get used to a college style set up in the classroom and will often be encouraged to work independently.

Finally, this is our outdoor area where we can use our walking frames, or have a stretch under the covered area on the beanbags! There's also a sand pit and water tray out here for us to explore.
Our main learning space is the classroom, we gather here for circle time, whole class learning and lunch. We begin our learning together as a whole class before moving to smaller adult led groups to complete learning at an appropriate level.
We have a dedicated role play area to support learning through play. Each term we match the role play area to our learning theme. The role play area is a much loved area of the classroom and provides opportunity to develop social skills, communication and writing.
In Violet class we love to read. We have a dedicated reading area with favourite books. Pupils enjoy regular opportunities to share a book or listen to a story. We also enjoy spending time in the school library.
The group room provides a quiet space for learning. It is used for a variety of activities including Speech and Language Therapy programmes and focused learning.
The outdoor area is a space shared with our friends in Indigo Class, we enjoy spending playtime with them. It also provides a space for learning outside, we particularly enjoy phonics and mark making in this space.

The classroom is our main area for learning; we sit together for Hello time and whole class activities. We move to our tables to do individual learning and to have snack and lunch.

Emerald class is a bright open space where we do all our learning.
