Term 5

Curriculum overview

We are looking forward to welcoming Ruby class back to the first summer term. We have lots to celebrate with the May Day bank holiday weekend, the Coronation of King Charles III and with Summer starting.

Curriculum overview

Our topic this term is a fusion of 'Everyday Materials' with a link to 'Fashion'.

Our topic will mostly have a science theme, where we explore different materials and their properties. During our topic we will also run an investigation into the best material to make an umbrella out of. We will also briefly look at the history of clothes and fashion - starting with the Victorians, moving to the 1960s and then later decades. As part of our DT, we will be making an accessory by sewing - either a felt badge or a facemask.

Our books for the term are 'The Tin Planet' by Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson & 'Too Much Stuff' by Emily Gravett. As part of our learning, we will be exploring the non-fiction genre of instructions.

Our topics for maths will be division and capacity.

In PHSE, we will be looking at the Jigsaw topic 'Relationships'. We will also enjoy celebrating King Charles III's coronation.

On a Thursday in Ruby class with Natalie we will be developing some life skills using such as cleaning, cooking, gardening, office jobs etc. Natalie will also be teaching our dance topic for PE.
